Raymond Tam
Executive Director, Policy & Development, Insurance Authority of Hong Kong
Mr. Raymond Tam joined the Insurance Authority in June 2017 as Executive Director, Policy and Development.  He heads policy and development including the launch of Insurtech Sandbox, design of Risk Based Capital regime and Policy Holder Protection Scheme.

He joined Sun Life of Canada in 1979 and worked in life insurance companies in Canada and USA.  He came back to Hong Kong in 1988 as actuarial consultant with Mercer, John Hancock and Willis Towers Watson.  In 1992, he joined the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, supervising and regulating life insurance companies.  As Assistant Commissioner of Insurance (Long Term Business), he also oversaw policy development for life insurance and designed and introduced Solvency I in 1995.  He was also the Government Actuary advising the Government on pension matters.  In 1996, he was posted to the MPF Office as Assistant Director, leading the design of MPF, the universal retirement protection system for Hong Kong, drafting regulations for MPF schemes, trustees, investments and ORSO schemes.  In 1998, he became Executive Director of the new pension regulator MPFA, built up the supervisory team and completed approval of MPF schemes, trustees, investment funds and intermediaries for launch of MPF system in 2000.  He joined Ageas in 2002 as Chief Actuary of a new life insurance JV in Shanghai and was entrusted by the Chinese JV partner to handle their investor relation.  In 2012, he won the first “Actuary of the Year” award in China.  He moved back to Hong Kong in 2014 as Regional Chief Risk Officer for Asia.

Raymond holds a B.Sc. in Actuarial Science from University of Manitoba and did graduate studies in Computer Science in University of Toronto and admitted to PhD program of University of Waterloo.
Raghu Hariharan
Chief Financial Officer, Prudential Corporation Asia
Raghunath Hariharan is Chief Financial Officer of Prudential Corporation Asia. He is responsible for Finance, Actuarial, Strategy, Capital Markets and Investor Relations for the region.

Prior to this role, Raghu was the Group Director of Strategy and Capital Market Relations leading Strategy formulation, Capital optimisation and Investor and Rating agency relations. He was also a member of the Group Executive Committee. He joined Prudential Plc in 2012 as Investor Relations Director.

Raghu has over 20 years’ experience in financial services having worked across Asia, US and the UK, spanning consumer & investment banking and (re)/insurance. Prior to joining Prudential Plc, he held a number of senior roles with large multi-national companies including; Citibank, General Electric and Fox-Pitt Kelton, a leading, boutique investment bank (then owned by Swiss Re and now by Macquarie).

Raghu earned his MBA in Finance and Strategy from the London Business School and his Masters in Marketing Management and Bachelors in Production Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India.
Dr. Jianqiao Lu
Board Member, International Accouting Standards Board
Dr. Jianqiao Lu joined the International Accounting Standards Board (Board) from the Chinese Ministry of Finance, where he most recently served as the director of the Accounting Regulatory Department. During his time there, he played a leading role in China’s work to align Chinese accounting standards with IFRS Standards. Dr Lu previously served as the head of China’s governmental accounting standards reform working group and also led projects to develop accounting standards for non-governmental not-for-profit organisations.

He has made an important contribution to the establishment and work of the Asia-Oceanian Standard-Setters Group (AOSSG), an independent forum of accounting standard-setters from across the region. He has also been actively involved with the IFRS Foundation for many years, including as a key facilitator of the Board’s Emerging Economies Group and as a member of the Accounting Standards Advisory Forum.

Jon Nielsen
Group Chief Risk Officer, AIA Group Limited
Mr. Nielsen is the Group Chief Risk Officer and a member of the Group Executive Committee. He is responsible for the Group’s risk and compliance functions. He is also a director of various companies within the Group. Mr. Nielsen has been with AIA for 11 years.

He was appointed the Group’s Regional Chief Financial Officer in 2010, overseeing the Group’s financial planning, reporting and analysis, financial systems and operations, treasury and tax functions. Prior to joining AIA, Mr. Nielsen served as Deputy Head of Accounting Policy for Allianz Group for three years. Previously, he spent over eight years with Deloitte & Touche primarily serving insurance clients. He received a Master of Professional Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Kenneth Dai
Vice President & Chief Actuary, Asia Division, Manulife Financial Asia Limited
Kenneth Dai is the Vice President and Chief Actuary at Manulife Asia. Kenneth leads the actuarial function in Asia and is accountable for ensuring that the actuarial and capital management practices in Asia comply with internal policies, relevant actuarial standards of practice and regulatory requirements.  He is also leading the IFRS17 implementation and actuarial transformation in Asia.  With nearly 20 years of experience,Kenneth has a wide range of experience and knowledge in various functions including pricing, product development, finance and valuation.  Kenneth is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and is the Vice President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong.
Alexander Wong
Chief Actuary, Hang Seng Insurance
Alex is the Chief Actuary for Hang Seng Insurance. He has over 17 years of experiences in Life Insurance in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and is an active participant in insurance industry development. He serves as the Group leader for Life Pillar 1 Industry Focused Group (IFG) during the ongoing HK RBC consultation. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Insurance Implementation Support Group (HKIISG) selected by HKICPA advising on the implementation of IFRS 17. He is currently a member of HKFI Actuarial Working Group & Task Force on Consultancy Study on Risk-based capital (RBC) Framework & IFRS 17.

Immediately before his appointment in 2015, he was the Head of Actuarial & Risk Analytics, leading one of the two global centers of excellence of insurance risk and actuarial for HSBC Insurance. With a team of close to 80 risk and actuarial professionals, he has led the delivery of a wide range of actuarial services including valuation across various bases(statutory, IFRS, and economic capital), pricing, Prophet modeling,reinsurance, stress testing and risk analytics to the two major insurance companies in Hong Kong (HSBC Insurance and Hang Seng Insurance), with various supports to other Asia Pacific sites including China, Singapore, Malaysia and India.

Before joining HSBC in 2011, Alex was the Vice President and Appointed Actuary for Nan Shan Life Insurance in Taiwan and served as council member in the Actuarial Institute of Chinese Taipei.
Matthew Phillips
China and Hong Kong Financial Services Leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers
Matthew Phillips is a partner based in Hong Kong, and he has overall responsibility for our financial services practice in Hong Kong and China. Matthew has over 20 years of experience in the sector. He moved to Hong Kong in 1997 as one of the founding members of our deals team and has worked in Asia ever since, including seven years based in Shanghai. He recently moved back to Hong Kong to lead the financial services practice.

Matthew has advised on projects for many of our largest regional clients including over 100 financial services M&A projects spanning the region. His experience covers lead advisory, market entry as well as assisting on due diligence and post deal integration.

He has advised many foreign investors on market entry strategy and on cross border deals. As China’s financial services sector has emerged he has worked on many of the ground breaking investments and transactions in the region. These groundbreaking assignments have provided Matthew with unique experience in the strategic considerations, market opportunities and challenges of making partnerships and joint ventures work.

Matthew is the Financial Services M&A leader for Asia and plays a co-ordination role across our financial services M&A practice. He is also the lead partner for M&A relationships for many of the most acquisitive players in the region.

Moody's Speakers

Dr. Michael Min Ye
Managing Director, Regional Head, Asia Pacific, Moody's Investors Service
Dr. Michael Ye is the Managing Director and the Regional Head of Moody’s Asia Pacific. He is responsible for formulating business growth initiatives, budgeting and planning, managing Moody’s offices and affiliate relations, and monitoring the regulatory environment in the region.

Previously, he was the Managing Director and the Country Manager for Moody’s China, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of China Chengxin International Credit Rating Co Ltd, Moody’s affiliate in China.

Michael, who joined Moody’s as a Senior Analyst and Vice President in 1994, has also worked as the Managing Director of the Structured Finance Group for Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) in Hong Kong.

He has a BE and an ME in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Michael also has a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in the US.
Colin Holmes
Managing Director, Insurance Solutions, Enterprise Risk Solutions, Moody's Analytics
Colin is Managing Director of Insurance Solutions at Moody’s Analytics. The bulk of Colin’s career has been spent in financial risk management with Barrie & Hibbert (B&H) and Moody’s Analytics. During his time at B&H, Colin had a broad involvement across the business, working within a range of technical, management and customer-focused roles, in the UK, Europe and the US. The business’ growth resulted in the acquisition of B&H by Moody’s Analytics in 2011.

Since joining Moody’s Analytics, Colin has been involved across the ERS Insurance business, focused on implementation services. In his current role, Colin has overall responsibility for the Enterprise Risk Solutions business in the insurance sector.
Shailendra Jain
General Manager, Enterprise Risk Solutions, Moody's Analytics
Shailendra is General Manager of Enterprise Risk Solution, APAC. Prior to that he was head of sales for Insurance, Pension and Asset Managers across EMEA and was based in London. He was leading the sales team at Barrie and Hibbert prior to its acquisition by Moody’s Analytics and brings deep knowledge of modelling and technology related solutions used by our Insurance and Banking customers globally.

In his 18 years of global executive experience, Shailendra has worked both in capital markets and in the financial technology sectors. Previously he worked in capital markets at UBS Warburg in Hong Kong, credit risk related content and technology at Moody’s KMV in Hong Kong before joining Barrie & Hibbert.

Shailendra holds a masters degree in Finance and an Executive MBA from Kellogg-HKUST Business School. He has extensive knowledge of global risk management trends, regulations, processes and cultures.
Sally Yim
Associate Managing Director, Financial Institutions Group, Moody's Investors Service
Sally Yim is an Associate Managing Director in the Financial Institutions Group. Based in Hong Kong, Sally oversees teams responsible for the maintenance of ratings on Asian (including Japan) insurers and North Asian (excluding Japan) non-bank financial institutions.

Sally joined Moody’s in February 2005 as an Associate Analyst in New York, covering property & casualty insurers. She transferred to Hong Kong in 2006 and completed a short stint in the Corporate Finance Group, supporting analysts in the oil & gas, petrochemical and steel sectors. Sally rejoined the Financial Institutions Group as an Analyst in January 2007. Since then, Sally has covered various Asian financial institutions, including insurance companies, banks and securities companies.

Prior to joining Moody’s, Sally worked as a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young LLP in New York, specializing in private and public insurers. She also worked at Ernst & Young’s National Professional Practice, where she focused on technical accounting research, while assisting in accounting consultations.

Sally holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Accounting from the University of Michigan. She is a CFA charterholder and also a Certified Public Accountant.
Andrew Waters
Senior Director, Enterprise Risk Solutions, Moody's Analytics
Andrew Waters is a Senior Director at Moody’s Analytics dedicated to providing solutions for the insurance sector, with a current focus that includes IFRS 17. His experience includes the provision of Solvency II standard formula and internal model solutions, with experience in liability approximations (replicating portfolios, curve fitting, Least Squares Monte Carlo), ALM, hedging, Economic Capital Optimisation, and stress testing. Andrew has over 10 years’ experience in risk management for pensions, banks, asset managers, and insurers. Before joining Moody’s Analytics, he has worked at Markit/QuIC, Algorithmics, Mercer, and RBC.

Andrew is a CFA Charterholder, and holds various designations including the FRM, PRM, and CAIA.
Frank Yuen
Assistant Vice President - Analyst, Financial Institutions Group, Moody's Investors Service
Frank Yuen is an Assistant Vice President with Moody’s Financial Institutions Group. Based in Hong Kong, he is part of the insurance rating team covering a portfolio of insurers in Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining Moody’s, Frank spent six years at BNP Paribas and Standard Chartered as an equity research analyst, covering banks and insurers in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. He also spent two years as a management trainee at Standard Chartered.

Frank graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring in Actuarial Science. Frank Yuen is a CFA and FRM charterholder.
Qian Zhu
Vice President - Senior Credit Officer, Financial Institutions Group, Moody's Investors Service
Qian Zhu is a Senior Credit Officer in Moody’s Financial Institutions Group in Shanghai, where she covers a portfolio of Asian insurance companies.

Qian transferred to Shanghai in February 2016 after spending over 10 years in Moody’s Structured Finance Group in both New York and London, covering various securitization products, including catastrophe bonds. In addition, Qian was seconded to CCXI, Moody’s joint venture company in China, as Chief Technical Advisor in CCXI’s Structured Finance Department from February to June 2014.

Prior to joining Moody’s, Qian worked as a senior actuarial analyst with Towers Watson in New York, specializing in pension and retirement medical  
plan valuation.

Qian received her Bachelor of Economics and Master of Operations Management from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University. She holds both a CFA charter and an ASA designation.
Adam Koursaris
Senior Director, ERS Product Management, Moody's Investors Service
Adam rejoined Moody’s Analytics in 2017 after four years working at Willis Towers Watson. He had previously worked at Moody’s Analytics and Barrie and Hibbert for seven years.

Adam specializes in risk, capital, and asset and liability management (ALM) applications, and has been a long term trusted advisor to insurance companies globally. Adam has been at the forefront of risk modeling methodology development, and has helped to design, build, document, validate, and optimize Solvency II internal model solutions for many of the world’s largest insurers.

He currently leads Moody’s Analytics ALM and strategic asset allocation proposition for insurance companies and their asset managers. Adam has a degree in statistics and actuarial science from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
